**Learn about California's school system & support Beacon Park School!**
Ed100.org is a free online course that provides a practical way for parents, teachers and community members to learn about education issues, one lesson at a time. While learning about California's education system we can win MONEY for our PTA (be sure to select our school!). The more participants that complete the course the more tickets the school earns. Help increase our schools chance to win $1000 in the next drawing by completing the course prior to November 15th.
Parent resource emails from Ed100:
- "The world is run by those who show up."
It may seem a bit like stating the obvious, but children who show up for school do a lot better than children who don’t.
Parents and PTAs can help get kids to school on time. Share this lesson, Attendance: A Measure of School Success, with all your families and school staff. Let them know the importance of regular attendance. It has links to time-proven strategies that really work.
- "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Thank you Benjamin Franklin… Vaccinations are one of the most important ways to protect children from serious preventable diseases. Check out our blog, Starting School with "Ouch!", to find California's vaccination requirements and make sure you are ready for school.
- Psst... the homework is for the kids.
Time to make sure your home (and you) are homework ready. Our friends at the California State PTA have tips to help you get organized. What do you mean you can't find any writing paper? Good news: The tips are available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Vietnamese and Tagalog.
- I didn't know they taught this in fourth grade!
Sort of curious about what your child will be studying? We've got you covered. Check out this lesson: Great Expectations: How Do Common Core Standards Work? Share this with parents at your school--particularly the grade level guides in English and Spanish.
- Yes, I can!
Reading to your child... in any language... is one of the most important things you can do to help your child. Our lesson on Literacy gives you the info you need to understand the role our schools play in building literacy.
Schools can't do this alone. The resources in the lesson include links to Reading Rockets and Colorin Colorado, with reading tips for parents in many languages.
